For the past several decades, SODS members have volunteered their time and resources to assist the community by providing dental services to patients seen the local emergency rooms for dental problems. To ensure fairness, the list is randomized. Each year the doctors also rotate through the major holidays to ensure a fair division. It is our goal that members will only serve ER Call on a major holiday once every 5 years. Over time, this may change as some of our colleagues retire or relocate. ***CHANGE TO ER CALL POLICY*** Due to changes in how the ER call currently operates and in an effort to simplify the policy, doctors will be responsible for calling the hospitals each day they are listed on call. They no longer need to call the hospitals the morning after their call week ends.
2. At the beginning of each day your office is on call (including the weekend), contact each hospital ER. Tell them that you are the dentist on call & they will give you the list of patients seen for dental problems. 3. Contact each patient on the list and follow-up with them. Schedule a treatment or evaluation appointment in your office as needed. 4. Payment arrangements are handled differently in each office. You may charge for services; however you may not refuse treatment because a patient cannot pay in full at the time of service. 5. Occasionally, one of the hospitals may contact you during the business day if there is a patient in need of care. If you have a scheduling conflict with the week you have been assigned you must find another doctor to switch with and notify the SODS, and notify the three emergency rooms. We know that this week can sometimes be hectic. We greatly appreciate your dedication as an upstanding member of the Southern Oregon Dental Society. You can download the ER Call list by clicking on the list. ER Call List files are PDF format & are password-protected for your security. Please email or call the SODS for the password. The Holiday rotation is also listed for your convenience. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
